The situation
Four clinic locations — none of them visible on Google Maps
Our client operates four physiotherapy clinics across the Greater Toronto Area. Despite being established for 11 years with strong patient satisfaction scores, none of their locations appeared in the Google local pack (the map results that dominate healthcare searches). Patients searching 'physiotherapist near me' or 'physio Toronto' were being sent to competitors who had been open for two years.
The clinic director had tried setting up Google Business Profiles on her own and had run a brief local SEO campaign with another agency with no measurable results. When we audited the accounts, the reason was immediately clear: 11 years of inconsistent directory listings had created a mess of conflicting business information that was actively suppressing their local rankings.
Core challenges
Four distinct problems compounding each other
NAP inconsistency across 40+ directories
The four clinic locations had conflicting names, addresses, and phone numbers listed across Yelp, Healthgrades, RateMDs, Yellow Pages, and dozens of smaller directories — accumulated over 11 years. Google treats inconsistency as a trust signal failure.
Unverified and incomplete GBP listings
Two of the four Google Business Profile listings were unverified. All four had incomplete service categories, missing opening hours for Saturday clinics, and no photos beyond a single exterior shot from 2019.
No review strategy
Combined, the four locations had 34 Google reviews. Competitors in the same postcodes averaged 180–240 reviews. Review velocity and star rating are confirmed local ranking factors.
No location-specific landing pages
The website had a single 'Locations' page with four addresses listed. No individual landing pages per clinic meant Google had no location-specific content to rank for hyperlocal searches.
Our approach
A structured 6-phase SEO programme
We built a phased plan that addressed technical foundations first, then content, then authority — in that order. Skipping the technical audit would have wasted the content investment.
1
Google Business Profile audit and optimisation
Verified all four listings, completed every available field, added 12 service categories per location, uploaded 40+ photos per clinic (interior, staff, equipment), added Q&A content, and enabled messaging. Set up weekly GBP posts for each location.

2
NAP audit and citation cleanup
Used BrightLocal to audit 47 directories. Found 138 individual NAP errors across the four locations. Corrected every one manually — automated tools miss healthcare-specific directories. Submitted to 22 missing relevant directories including Healthgrades, RateMDs, and Canadian healthcare aggregators.

3
Review generation strategy
Designed a post-appointment review request flow: text message 4 hours after appointment with a direct GBP review link. Trained front desk staff on verbal review requests. Produced a laminated 'How to leave a review' card for waiting rooms.

4
Location-specific landing pages
Built four individual clinic pages with unique content per location: embedded Google Map, local staff bios, location-specific service descriptions, schema markup, and hyperlocal keyword targeting (e.g. 'physiotherapist Mississauga', 'physio North York').

5
Local content and link building
Published monthly blog posts targeting local health search intent — 'best exercises for desk workers in Toronto', 'when to see a physio after a car accident Ontario'. Secured listings in three local chamber of commerce directories and two Toronto health publications.

4.7★
Average rating across 174 Google reviews
Within 90 days, one location became the highest-rated physiotherapy clinic in its postcode with 63 Google reviews averaging 4.9 stars
The SMS review request flow achieved a 31% response rate — significantly above the industry average of 8–12% for healthcare review requests
Three patients who found the clinic via Google Maps explicitly mentioned the volume of positive reviews as the reason they chose this clinic over closer competitors
The clinic has since used the location page template we built to open a fifth location — their new GBP and page were ranking in the top 5 within 6 weeks of opening

We'd been in business for 11 years and had no idea that the reason new patients couldn't find us online was a bunch of old directory listings with the wrong phone numbers. Once that was fixed, everything else started working. We've since stopped accepting walk-in patients on Fridays because we're fully booked — something that's never happened before.
