Why EdTech platforms
fail to retain learners

Engagement drop-off and poor completion rates are symptoms of technical and UX failures — not learner disinterest. We've seen every failure mode.

01

Video Infrastructure at Scale

Self-hosted video breaks under load. Buffering during live classes, poor adaptive bitrate streaming, and lack of CDN coverage for Tier-2 and Tier-3 city learners are the most common failure points.

02

Content Piracy & DRM

For paid course platforms, unprotected video content is routinely downloaded and redistributed. Most EdTech platforms launch without Digital Rights Management — and learn the hard way.

03

Multi-Device Learning Continuity

Learners switch between mobile, tablet, and desktop constantly. Platforms that don't maintain seamless progress synchronisation, offline mode, and consistent UX across devices see significantly higher dropout rates.

04

Assessment Integrity

Online examinations without proctoring are commercially unviable for serious certification and competitive exam platforms. But over-aggressive proctoring creates false positives and destroys learner experience.

How Nepras solves them

Video infrastructure built on AWS CloudFront CDN with adaptive bitrate HLS streaming — content served from edge nodes closest to each learner, including Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities with lower bandwidth availability.
DRM implementation using Widevine (Android/Chrome) and FairPlay (iOS/Safari) — preventing download while maintaining seamless playback experience. Watermarking for additional deterrence on premium content.
Offline-first mobile apps with background sync — learners download content on WiFi and consume it without connectivity. Progress syncs automatically when connection is restored — no data loss.
AI-assisted proctoring with calibrated sensitivity — face detection, eye movement tracking, and background noise monitoring with human review queues for flagged sessions rather than automated disqualification.
Gamification layer with streak tracking, leaderboards, badges, and peer cohort benchmarking — proven to increase weekly active usage and completion rates by 35–55% based on our platform data.
Predictive dropout detection using engagement signals — time-on-platform, quiz performance trends, and login frequency — triggering automated re-engagement nudges before learners fully disengage.

Built to education
industry standards

For EdTech platforms serving institutional clients, compliance with learning standards, data privacy regulations, and accessibility requirements is non-negotiable. We build to these standards from day one.

SCORM 1.2 & 2004
SCORM-compliant course packaging enabling content portability across any LMS — including Moodle, Blackboard, and custom platforms.
xAPI (Tin Can)
Experience API support for tracking learning across offline, mobile, simulation, and third-party content environments beyond the LMS.
DPDP & COPPA
Data privacy compliance for platforms serving minors — parental consent flows, data minimisation, and restricted advertising on student-facing surfaces.
WCAG 2.1 Accessibility
Accessible platform design meeting WCAG 2.1 AA standards — essential for government education contracts and institutional clients.

EdTech infrastructure
built for millions

Video Streaming
AWS CloudFront + MediaConvert pipeline with HLS adaptive streaming, Widevine/FairPlay DRM, and automatic quality laddering from 240p to 1080p based on bandwidth.
Live Classes
WebRTC-based live teaching with RTMP ingest for studio setups, up to 10,000 concurrent viewers per session, live polls, Q&A, and hand-raise management.
Mobile Apps
React Native cross-platform apps with offline download capability, background sync, push notification campaigns, and deep-link support for marketing attribution.
Payment & Subscriptions
Razorpay / Cashfree integration for course purchases, subscription plans, EMI options via NBFCs, and institutional invoicing with GST-compliant receipt generation.
AI & Personalisation
Recommendation engine for next-best-content, spaced repetition algorithms for retention, NLP-powered doubt chatbots, and automated content tagging for search.
Our Engagement Model

From curriculum brief
to live learners

A structured delivery process that maps your pedagogy and business model to a platform architecture — with educators and learners tested at every stage.

PHASE 01

Learning Discovery

We map your teaching model, content types, assessment philosophy, and learner personas before any technical design. The platform must serve your pedagogy, not constrain it.

PHASE 02

Platform Architecture

Video infrastructure, live class stack, mobile strategy, payment model, and third-party integrations are all architected before design begins — avoiding expensive rework mid-build.

PHASE 03

Design & Usability

Learner-first UX design with accessibility checks, mobile-first layout, and educator dashboard design — validated with real users from your target student demographic before development.

PHASE 04

Build & Test

Platform build with instructor and student beta testing built into the sprint cycle. Video encoding pipelines, live class simulations, and load testing are all completed before launch day.

PHASE 05

Scale & Optimise

Post-launch engagement analytics, A/B testing on course discovery and checkout flows, and monthly feature sprints based on learner and educator feedback — we optimise for completion rates, not just enrollments.

Client Voices

From the educators
we've helped scale

We migrated 40,000 students from Teachable to our custom Nepras-built platform. The process was seamless, and the new platform is dramatically faster. Course completion rates went from 34% to 61% within two months — the offline download feature was the single biggest driver.

Founder, ClearPath Coaching
We run 600 live classes a month across our platform. Before Nepras rebuilt our video infrastructure, we were averaging 4 serious disruptions a week. In the 8 months since go-live, we've had zero. That reliability is what gives teachers and students confidence to learn with us.
MT
Meera Taneja
CTO, BrightMind EdTech
The AI doubt-resolution chatbot they built handles 72% of student questions without human intervention — that's 3 full-time support roles our margin no longer needs to carry. And the average response quality, measured by student satisfaction, is higher than the human agents it partially replaced.

EdTech questions
we get every day

Have a specific question? Talk to us directly →

Can you migrate our existing courses from Teachable, Thinkific, or Moodle? +
Yes. We've migrated content from Teachable, Thinkific, Kajabi, Moodle, and several proprietary platforms. The migration covers course content, student enrollment data, progress records, and completion certificates. We validate 100% of migrated data before directing learners to the new platform and run both systems in parallel during transition.
How do you handle video content protection? +
We implement industry-standard DRM — Google Widevine for Android and Chrome, Apple FairPlay for iOS and Safari. This prevents any download of video content. We also implement dynamic watermarking (user ID and timestamp overlaid on the video) as a deterrent against screen recording for high-value content.
Can your platform support 10,000+ concurrent live class viewers? +
Yes. For large-scale live classes, we use a broadcast architecture — the instructor's stream is ingested via RTMP and delivered at scale via WebRTC for up to 500 interactive participants, or HLS streaming for larger broadcast audiences. We've successfully delivered single live sessions with 85,000 concurrent viewers.
Do you build iOS and Android apps or just web platforms? +
Both. Our Academy and Institution tiers include native iOS and Android apps built in React Native — delivering near-native performance with a shared codebase. Apps include offline content download, push notifications, in-app purchase flows, and biometric authentication. They are submitted to the App Store and Play Store as part of our delivery.
Can you integrate with our existing student information system or ERP? +
Yes. We've integrated with SAP Student Management, Oracle EBS, Fedena, and several custom university SIS platforms. Integration typically covers student roster sync, enrollment data, grade export, and SSO via SAML or OAuth — enabling the LMS and SIS to function as a unified system without duplicate data entry.
